We Are The Champions Of Europe

Chelsea Football Club won the 2020/21 Champions League by beating Manchester City 1-0 in the final as they won their 2nd Champions League title in their history which the match held in Portugal. All the pundits, predictions, and media predicted that Manchester City are the favorites but now all they have to admit is that Chelsea is the deserving winners of this final as they could have easily won the match by 2/3 goals to nil. From start to finish the whole team was superb as they attack it well City on the counter and defensively Chelsea didn’t give any space to the Manchester City attackers to create any meaningful goal-scoring opportunity. As I mentioned earlier the whole team was superb as the players' rating going to be the highest of this season.    

Note;(GK-Goal Keeper, CB- Centre Back, LWB- Left Wing Back, RWB-Right Wing Back, CM- Centre Midfield, LF-Left Forward, RF-Right Forward ST-Striker, )

Formation:3-4-2-1

GK- Edouard Mendy – apart from the save he made from Sterling’s backheel in the opening 10 minutes, Mendy has no saves to make as the defense was too strong for them. Mendy is also involved in the goal as his distribution for Chilwell creates the opening for Chelsea. 9 clean sheets in the Champions League and probably the best goal Keeper in this year’s tournament.    Rating- 8/10 

CB- Azpilicueta – This was a well and truly captain’s performance as he defends it very well for the whole match. Putting his body on the line and he made much crucial clearance especially in the 2nd half where he cleared Mahrezs goal-bound cross inside the box.   Rating 9/10  

CB- Thiago Silva– he was gutted when he went off in the 1st half with the groin injury but it was a happy ending for him as he redeemed himself for the last year’s Champions League Final defeat with PSG by winning this year with Chelsea. Before he went off Silva defend it well as he won everything in the middle of the defense.   Rating 8/10 

CB- Ruediger- yet again this beast was outstanding for Chelsea on the left flank as he dealt with everything he faced. His main highlight will be the goal-saving tackle which he made in the 1st half against Phil Foden.    Rating 9/10

RWB- Reece James- Another player who turned into a beast in the final for Chelsea as he pocked Raheem Sterling for the whole match. Defensively James was immense as he made the match-high of 7 tackles and 5 clearances which shows how good he was defensive, caused some problems when he goes forward as he put in some Dangerous crosses inside as the academic product produced a superb display for the team.    Rating 9/10

LWB- Ben Chilwell – When James dominating Sterling on his side, Chilwell was dominating another City Winger on his side who have been outstanding for the whole season for Manchester City and that was Riyad Mahrez. Mahrez is the kind of player who loves the beat his opponent with his trickery, skills, and pace but it didn’t happen with Chilwell as he dealt with Mahrez and Walker on the left side. And also Chelsea’s were more dangerous on the left flank as Chilwell linkup well with Mason Mount to create all kinds of problems for Walker on the left side.   Rating 9/10

CM- Ngolo Kante- World Class that’s it nothing more has to say about him maybe one more; He is the best Midfielder in the world right now. Stopped every possible Manchester City attack as he had 100% tackle success and also he had the match-high of 11 duels won 10 ball recoveries which showed that how defensively he good was. To add more to that Kante didn’t commit any foul on the pitch as it showed how flawless he was and on the other side, he completed all of his take-ons which showing his attacking side his match. His performance in the final will go down as one of the greatest performances of all time in the Champions League therefore he is the official man of the match, my man of the match, and most probably the player of the 2020/21 Champions League season. Is there any more I can say about him, the rating for him is a not surprise because he worth gets that.    Rating 10/10 Man of the Match.

CM- Jorginho- Kante makes the job easy for him but his presence In Midfield was vital for Chelsea today he controlled the tempo of the match. Played some nice passes and sometimes he played safely by playing the pass backward but in this kind of match needs to have control of the ball which he has done today. Now it’s time to stop disrespecting this man because he received unfair criticism from the fans but he is one of the key reasons why Chelsea became the Champions of Europe this year.   Rating-9/10 

RF- Kai Havertz- Match Winner and did now anyone cares about his 72 million fees? This only goal was worth more than his transfer fee. What a performance by him he kept caused all kinds of problems for the City defense and his composure to go around Ederson to score the only goal of the match showed his confidence he has within him. Could have 2 assist to his name after Werner and Pulisic missed their chance to score but he stepped up in the biggest game of his career so far. Near Man of the match performance but Kante just edged him up.   Rating 9.5/10

LF- Mason Mount- Chelsea’s one of their own showed the world that he is having all potential to be one of the best in the world in the upcoming years with an outstanding display. He assisted the only goal of the match with an eye-catching through ball for Havertz and could have another assist to his name as well. Also gives Walker a torrid time on the left flank as he linkup well with Chilwell on that side.  Rating 9/10 

ST- Timo Werner -  yet again his finishing let him down as he misses kicked from Havertz pass inside the box and also should have done better with the 2nd chance he had from Mount's pass. But his all-around play was impressive again he holds the ball well brings others into the game. And also his contribution to the goal was massive as he takes the City defense out from their line with his off-ball movement to create space for Havertz to score the goal. Rating 8/10 

 

Substitution

Andreas Christensen for Thiago Silva- replaced the injured Silva and Christensen was outstanding since he came on for him. Multiples clearance and interception he put in to keep the defense tight as the Danish International was superb in the center of the defense. Rating 9/10

Christian Pulisic for Timo Werner- came on for the last 30 minutes looks lively and should have scored to kill the game off. But works hard for the team and makes some good runs with the ball in attack. .-Rating 7/10

Mateo Kovacic for Mason Mount- Came on for the last 17 minutes to shut down Manchester City’s attack and he has done that well enough as he put in a couple of good tackles and runs with the ball. Rating 7/10

 

Special Thanks to the Club Legend Frank Lampard

Frank Lampard deserves massive credit for Chelsea’s Champions League triumph this season as Lampard came in last season and took charge as a manager of the club in a very bad time. Chelsea hit by the transfer ban and the best player of that time Hazard left the club for Real Madrid but Lampard did a great Job for Chelsea last season by qualify in the Champions League and also he promoted a lot of youngsters to the 1st team squad which some of them played their huge part in this seasons Champions League success. This season, before he gets sacked by the club he leads the team to win the Group Stage also he brought in some quality young players like Haverzt, Werner, Chilwell, a Quality player like Ziyech, Quality Goal Keeper Eduard Mendy, and most importantly he brought in the leader Thiago Silva which all of them played their parts for the Champions League success this season. Yes, the results didn’t go well in the middle of the season which was the reason for his sacking but what he has done in the difficult period of this club cannot be forgotten by all. Thank You Lampard for Everything and you will be always our Legend we will Love You Always. 

 

Manager

Thomas Tuchel- but the main credit must go to Thomas Tuchel, when he came to the club in January no one would think we will win the Champions League but this tactical genius proves all the doubters wrong and leads the Club to glory again. Today he tactically outplayed Manchester City and yet again his team selection was spot on as the whole stepped up in the final. If he gets a proper clinical striker next season with some additional signings he will lead the club for more glories that are for sure. When he took over Chelsea was 9th in the league table but we finished the season in the top 4 and with the Champions League which shows that the job he has done in the short time was truly remarkable. The Manager deserves the full rating for his role for the glory.   Rating 10/10

 

Last but not least not just players I just have mentioned above the rating, all the players who played their part in this massive success deserve to be appreciated. All of them have played a huge part in this success and also all the coaching staffs deserve to get applause for their works off the pitch as well. Thank You for the players, managers and so the owner of this Mr. Roman Abramovich who backed the club with his investments which leading to our glories and I tell you something this Champions League glory is just the beginning, there is a lot of glories and trophies will be add on to our trophy cabinet in the upcoming season. And now we are at the top of the world because Blue is the colour in Portugal, Chelsea is the name on the trophy, winning is our aim that what just we did because we Are the Champions of Europe.
